There’s no mightier battle waged each summer than that against the irritating buzz and bite of the bloodthirsty mosquito. Here are a few tips for ridding your outdoor areas of those itchy little pests:
- Get rid of any standing water around your property, as this is the prime breeding ground for mosquitoes.
- Make things difficult by adding a fan or two. Mosquitoes love still, calm air and will stay away from areas with a breeze.
- Light some citronella candles. It adds ambiance AND keeps the bugs at bay.
- Integrate citronella plants in your patio pots as an extra deterrent.
- Switch your outdoor lighting to yellow bulbs. They are less enticing to mosquitoes and other bugs than the standard white bulbs.
- Invest in a mosquito trap. There are a variety of options, but the general theme is luring them in and keeping them trapped till their demise. It may take up to a month to see results as you interrupt their breeding cycle.
- Consider mosquito misters, which disperse a fine spray of non-toxic insecticide into your surroundings.
- Add a few bat houses. Life is about compromise….
