To make sure your home is prepared for the colder months, run through this checklist:
- Have a qualified heating technician inspect and service your furnace or boiler
- If you have a wood burning stove or fireplace, have the chimney cleaned and inspected by a chimney sweep
- Have your water heater serviced by a qualified plumber
- Locate the shut-off valve for the outdoor faucet and drain the spigot
- Disconnect and drain the garden hose
- Make sure weather stripping is in place around the doors and windows and caulk any gaps
- Store patio furniture and garden tools
- Clean leaves and other debris out of the gutter
