Fire Prevention Week is October 4-10. The National Fire Protection Association’s key message for 2015 is smoke alarms, smoke alarms, smoke alarms! They recommend installing these little lifesavers in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area, and on every level of your home—including the basement. According to the NFPA, roughly 50% of home fire deaths occur between 11pm and 7 am, when most families are asleep. It’s estimated that having a working smoke alarm can cut the chances of dying in a fire in half.
