Fall is a great time to get some projects done around the house. That crisp, cool air just makes the “honey-do” list so much more pleasant to tackle! One of the quickest ways to spruce up your curb appeal for fall is to paint your front door. It adds immediate interest, and just like rearranging your furniture, it makes your home feel fresh and brand new. And it’s much easier than you might expect—just about as easy as an autumn apple pie!
1. Pick out an exciting new color.
This is the most fun part! For inspiration, look no further than the changing leaves around you. A spicy mustard yellow compliments nearly every house color and will keep your home looking sunny throughout the colder months. Burnt orange highlights any fall plantings and looks gorgeous with white or tan trim. If you want a more classic look, choose a deep red with notes of cranberry.
2. Head to your local hardware store.
Grab a can or two (the paint experts at the store should be able to tell you exactly how much you need) of your preferred color in a high-quality, outdoor formula. Don’t forget a roll of painter’s tape and a couple soft, 2-inch brushes.
3. Prep the door.
Take a few minutes to wipe down your door with barely soapy, warm water and allow it to dry thoroughly. You might want to do this the day before to allow for ample drying time. Next, tape off the edges of the door frame, hardware, and any glass inserts in your door.
4. Get to painting!
Throw on some of your favorite tunes or podcasts, carefully stir your beautiful new color, and begin transforming your door with long, even strokes. Depending on your shade, you may need to let the first coat dry and then apply a second for best coverage. Gently peel off the painter’s tape when the surface is dry, and get ready to smile every time you pull into your driveway.
Welcome Home!
